Our warm, dry weather is a big reason a major Tulsa highway project is ahead of schedule. Crews are ready to begin the next phase of the US Highway 169 road widening project this weekend.

Beginning this Saturday, all lanes in the construction zone will be shifted over and only barrels will separate workers from traffic. Because of the unseasonably dry weather, the project should be finished by the end of February.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation engineer Paul Green: "we usually lose a week to 10-days, so 25 to 35-percent of hour time is spent in inclement weather, so we haven't had that problem and with the temperatures staying up above freezing at night, it's really helped us complete the project.”

Tulsa Police warn that until the project is finished, they'll be watching for drivers violating the 45-mile per hour speed limit.
