Several north Tulsa homes are being torn down in an effort to clean up Tulsa neighborhoods.
Thursday, city crews demolished a home in the Northgate neighborhood in the 6400 block of North Elwood. This is the first of 18 dilapidated structures that could be demolished through the city's abatement process.
Mayor’s assistant DeWayne Midget: "we've been working in the community for several years now and we've really intensified our efforts here over the past year, year and a half."
Officials say property owners are notified when a home is considered dilapidated. They are given time to correct the problem before the city takes action.
