We have a Cinderella football story in Green Country after an underdog beat one of the top football teams in the country.

Sapulpa knocked off Jenks in the first round of the state playoffs. It's a rare playoff win for Sapulpa and it has them poised to make history.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson says one upset and folks in Sapulpa are already talking "state championship." The Sapulpa Chieftains had never even been to the playoffs under coach Mike Hainzinger, let alone take down one of the nation's best in the Jenks Trojans. Sapulpa broke out to a 17 point lead and never looked back; winning 24-21 and they did it on Jenks home turf.

Monday, all the talk at school is about Friday's game. Even lifelong Sapulpa residents can't remember a win this big and it puts this football team in a position to rewrite the record books.

Sapulpa has never won a second round playoff game and gets the advantage of facing their next opponent at home. Sapulpa High School senior Chelsea Thomas: “I think the whole town is just going to be ecstatic." Sapulpa High School football player Chance Tuttle: "The whole town is talking about it. It's a huge opportunity for us to go out and win the second round playoff. It's a great opportunity."

Sapulpa takes on the Mustang Broncos on Friday.
