For the second time in less than a month, a Tulsa woman is hospitalized after being attacked with a toxic chemical.
This time, it appears to be a case of mistaken identity.
Because her attackers remain at large, we're protecting Joanne's identity and location.
She was walking in her South Tulsa apartment complex on Friday, when two women came up behind her, calling out the name "Stephanie."
When she turned around, one woman threw a cup of a liquid chemical onto her face and chest.
"They said I told you you was gonna get burned. Either they said I told you you was gonna get burned or we were gonna burn you. One of the two they said. And then the other girl, she threw something in my face. And then when I looked up, apparently they recognized I was not the person they were talking about," said Joanne, Lye Attack Victim.
"Because one of the girls said 'that's not the one. Her hair wasn't that long."
It's believed Joanne's attackers used "lye." It burned her face neck and chest as well as her throat and eyes.
