CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) -- Grady County prosecutors will decide whether a woman who claimed to have found an abandoned baby Monday should face charges for allegedly fabricating the story.
Grady County Sheriff Kieran McMullen says the woman brought the baby to the hospital about 8:30 AM and told the hospital staff she had found the newborn alongside Oklahoma Highway 19 between Bradley and Lindsay.
McMullen says the woman confessed to investigators about 5:45 PM that the child was hers and she made up the story because she didn't want to take care of the infant.
Lindsay police, county law enforcement officers and state welfare workers helped with the search, releasing information to local news outlets.
McMullen says the woman wasn't arrested after her alleged confession. She has four other children at home and isn't considered to be a flight risk.
