McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- A mental competency trial for a death row inmate is being delayed.
Attorneys for Garry Thomas Allen requested the delay and prosecutors did not object. A trial date could be set during a status hearing scheduled for November 30th.
Allen was convicted and sentenced to die for killing his wife, Gail Titsworth, in front of their two children at an Oklahoma City day care center in 1986.
He was scheduled for execution May 19th, but a stay was issued the day before after a doctor reported Allen has dementia caused by seizures, drug abuse and being shot in the face. The US Supreme Court and state law prohibits execution of inmates who are insane or mentally incompetent.
