MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- Two hostages managed to escape after they grabbed a gun from their captor, who had fallen asleep.

Authorities say 36-year-old Roger Eugene Ramirez surrendered peacefully Sunday about six hours after pulling a gun on two officers and taking Bob Schank and his wife, Gabrielle Schank, hostage.

The couple told police other firearms were in the house in Moore where they were held and shortly after, several shots were heard from inside the home. Police fired tear gas rounds into the home to make Ramirez uncomfortable.

Officials say the standoff ended when Ramirez came out, ending a potentially deadly ordeal without a mishap.
