They spent 12 years twirling the pizza dough for the famous Hideaway Pizza. Now two brothers have created their own spin-off. What do the brothers call it? News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg says what else, Brothers Pizza.
Brett Hall says he wanted his own slice of the pizza action. "Just something we felt like we had to do and give it a shot and get rich or go broke trying, so that's what we're doing."
"We thought we could do it, because we have a lot of experience, and we know how to make good pizzas." That’s Bart, Brett’s twin brother and the other half in Brothers Pizza.
They're Tulsa natives, graduated from Webster and they both got their experience at the well-known Hideaway Pizza, starting from scratch. Brett Hall: "we made salads and pizzas and took out the trash, swept the floor. We did it all."
Bart rose through the ranks from dishwasher to Chief Operating Officer. And when Hideaway was bought by a new set of investors, he decided it was time to start his own tradition. But traditions of course don't happen overnight. Bart Hall: "Being in business is totally scary. It's a rocky, roller coaster ride, y'know. It's great work, it's hard work, but it's fun too, so."
Brett Hall: “It's six days, sometimes seven days a week, all day long." Their hope is to open a new place every 8 to 12 months, but as they approach their 1st year in business, they're satisfied.
Bart Hall: "Y'know if you can make it 6 months in this business, then you're doing pretty good, so we're pretty happy." One year and 49 more to go, if you're going by the Hideaway's clock.
Brett Hall: "If we can stick around half as long as they do, we'll be really successful."
The brothers business is mostly catering right now, with some carryout. But in a couple of months, they will open a small, dine-in restaurant at 101st and Sheridan.
