Clean up from Tuesday's storm is still going on for residents in midtown Tulsa. Power has been restored to most of the 12,000 PSO customers who have been in the dark the last couple days.
News on 6 reporter Jennifer Loren talked to one couple whose problems began when the electricity came on.
The house near 5900 East 27th Place had been without power since Tuesday. When PSO finally turned it back on at 10 PM Wednesday, half the house burned down.
Tulsa firefighters say the power was restored to this area just a couple minutes after 10 PM. By 10:13 PM, they got the call that the house was on fire.
After investigating, Tulsa Fire officials say the fire started in the old fashioned fuse box, possibly by a power surge.
The couple who own the home were out of town at the time. Thursday, they returned to find half their house destroyed. James Posey: "We're just thankful that none of us were in there or nobody was hurt. But just the inconvenience is going to be something until they can get something done here."
Firefighters say this of incident is rare. But the best thing you can do to avoid this kind of disaster in your home is to have your electrical system updated.
