OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Good news and bad news for Oklahoma wheat farmers.

The good news is wheat is selling for around $5 a bushel or about $2 a bushel more than usual.

The bad news is the Oklahoma wheat crop is expected to be the smallest in nearly 50 years because of drought.

The US Department of Agriculture is projecting the state wheat harvest at 68-million bushels. That would be the smallest harvest since 1957 when 43-million bushels were collected.

The drought has hit especially hard in southwestern Oklahoma where harvesting is already under way.

Mike Cassidy of Cassidy Grain in Frederick says Tillman County farmers are expecting to harvest no more than ten percent of the acres they planted in wheat.
