FERRIDAY, La. (AP) _ He wasn't able to be there in person. But Fats Domino left no doubt how he felt about his induction into the Delta Music Museum Hall of Fame.
He says while he has received many honors in his life, none touch his heart as much as being recognized by people of his home state of Louisiana.
His comments were in a letter read by a family friend at the induction ceremony this past Saturday in Ferriday.
Domino didn't feel up to the 150-mile trip to Ferriday from the New Orleans suburb of Harvey, where he lives these days.
Domino rode out Hurricane Katrina in the city's Ninth Ward, which was heavily damaged by the storm.
Domino says though the storm cut a path of destruction through his home, it couldn't destroy his faith, his love of music and love for his fans.
Domino says he still plans to perform at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans.
