OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Schools would be required to tell parents about the risks of meningitis and vaccination possibilities under a bill heading to the state House.

The bill has passed out of a House committee and goes now to the full House for consideration.

The action comes less than a week after an Oklahoma State University student was hospitalized with meningitis. A 13-year-old Chandler girl died of the disease earlier this year.

Meningitis is a rare but sometimes deadly inflammation of the brain and spinal cord lining that's caused by an infection but is not easily spread.

Symptoms include high fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, confusion and sleepiness.
