A number of neighborhoods around Tulsa will soon see some changes, thanks to Vision 2025 money.
Wednesday morning, city officials announced the winners of Vision money for a variety of neighborhood projects.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says one such location is Briarwood Park. The park draws children to its pool and swings, and baseball diamond. But all of it is in poor shape. The dugout bench is rotting away. The fence is stretched out and rusting.
The diamond is pretty rough, but not for much longer. Russell Reck with the Briarwood Neighborhood Association: "This will be completely torn down."
The baseball field will be renovated, and in empty space, a soccer field and picnic tables will be added, with $24,000 from the Vision plan. Backers hope it will add to a wave of neighborhood pride. Russell Reck: "So we're beginning to see an increase of that coming back as we do some work and make some changes and spruce up."
There was a flurry of handshakes as the mayor announced the other winning neighborhoods. 54 different homeowners groups will divide a million dollars. The winners will get as much as $25,000 each. Click here to see list of winners.
Most of the money awarded will go for beautification projects. In the Fulton neighborhood, the association won a grant of $25,000 to create more of these park like entrances to the neighborhood.
Back at Briarwood, the neighborhood has already gotten Vision money for a new playground at the park. It should be installed this month. And they hope down the line they can get money to refurbish the pool for a neighborhood that is coming alive again.
