Oklahoma City Leaders Implement State Of Emergency Changes

Bars, gyms, movie theaters and other businesses across Oklahoma City are closed after the latest wave of emergency orders kicked in at midnight Wednesday due to COVID-19.

Restaurants can only do take-out or delivery orders.

Mayor David Holt's order says restaurant staff who have maintenance duties are still allowed to work.

Some businesses closed voluntarily. This update makes it so that businesses like the Remington Park Casino have to comply until April 12th.

"It's literally a life or death situation, and this week we have chosen life," Mayor Holt said.

Note these closures do not impact grocery stores and supply chains across OKC.

Some stores are opening early for the city's most vulnerable citizens, including anyone 65 and older and those with underlying health issues.

The state of emergency also restricts city events permits, and gatherings of 50 people or more. There is also an emphasis on staying at least three feet away from other people on public transit.

Mayor Holt and Governor Stitt say these restrictions are constantly changing, and depending on the severity of the coronavirus the metro, they could be updated daily if not hourly.
