The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported a total of 1,970 positive COVID-19 cases across 62 counties in Oklahoma Sunday. There have also been 96 confirmed deaths in the state from the virus.
Despite the figures, some doctors have said there quite possibly are more cases than what we are seeing reported.
“We might have up to 20 times the number of infections that we are finding and that is based off of new mathematical models,” OU Medical Center Chief of Infectious Diseases Chief Dr. Douglas Drevets said.
Researchers are still trying to develop a vaccine for the virus, but the reality is that could be months away. Until one is found, Dr. Drevets said people need to continue to be vigilant.
The biggest concern for the future is that people continue to social distance,” Dr. Drevets said.
There have been 453 hospitalizations from the coronavirus in Oklahoma.
