Students in Sapulpa are getting ready for their prom and graduation this weekend, and the district said they’re taking precautions at both events because of COVID-19.

Sapulpa’s high school graduation is scheduled for Friday night at the football stadium, which is usually where they have it.

But the district said they’ll enforce strict social distancing measures between graduates and guests and there will be limited tickets for guests.

The district sent News On 6 a video of workers setting up for prom, which is Saturday night in the commons courtyard here at the high school.

They’re having it there because the district said its original venue in Tulsa canceled all events a week ago because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Tulsa County.

Aaron McColloch with Sapulpa Public Schools said the outdoor location is the school’s best bet in the middle of this pandemic.

McColloch said "that courtyard is probably the best under these circumstances because it is going to be open air and they’re not going to be inside.”

The district said temperature checks will be performed as students come in and everyone is required to wear a face mask.
