Tulsa police responded to a shot fire called on Saturday night.

The shooting took place near East Admiral Place and South 185th East Avenue. Authorities have ruled the shooting a homicide.

Police and neighbors said the victim was in the front yard of the house when he was shot by a person in a car.

Family members told officers that the victim is Native American.

Since the crime happened on Creek Nation territory, the recent McGirt v. Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling where any crime involving a Native American victim is now investigated by federal agencies.

"TPD is going to work the crime scene, and then at some point, the case is going to be transitioned over to a federal case," Tulsa Police Department Sgt. J.P. Ward said. "I think this is the third one we've had like that, so we're still kind of feeling the procedures and getting used to the changes."

The identity of the victim has not been released. No suspect description is available at this time.
