Oklahoma Health Department Issue Health Advisory

The State Health Department has issued a new statewide health advisory calling on Oklahomans to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The 'Safer in Oklahoma' Health Advisory is meant to reinforce public health precautions.

Interim Health Commissioner Dr. Lance Frye said while many of the recommendations seem like inconveniences now, they're key to stopping the spread of the virus.

The advisory urges everyone 11 and older to wear a mask in counties listed as Orange or Red under the state's alert system.

It also says all school employees, no matter what county they're in, should wear a mask on campus. The same goes for people visiting nursing homes, prisons, dorms or any other communal living space.

The advisory says folks should limit outdoor gatherings.

It also urges increased public and private testing capacity and asks for a 48 hours or less turnaround time for COVID tests. And requests the state enhance its data collection system.
