Federal law enforcement announced a new effort to keep guns away from felons called the 2150 initiative, named for the badge number of fallen Tulsa Police Sergeant Craig Johnson.

The first prosecution under this new effort is tied to the murder of Officer Johnson. A man named Jakob Garland was charged today with supplying David Ware with the gun used in the shooting.

The U.S. Attorney Trent Shores was backed by police officers, the squad mates of Sgt Craig Johnson. His widow was watching from the audience as federal authorities announced plans to target criminals with guns, and their pattern of escalating crimes.

"It's why we must continue to do them and why the heart of the 2150 initiative is about reducing crime for everyone but particularly for those brave men and women who are our thin blue line,” Shores said.

Federal authorities said felons with guns pose a threat to everyone.

Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin already has a gun crime unit, and the ATF already has a similar task force. What's new is two more federal investigators and more dedicated time from assistant U.S. attorneys prosecuting the crimes.

In addition to extra people, the feds have a K-9 in training to help gather ballistics evidence they'll use in court.
