A Tulsa couple has transformed their front yard into a water station for dogs in their neighborhood.
It has become quite the spot for pups in the area to grab some fresh water, a treat, and play a little fetch before finishing their walks with their owners.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear t-shirts and flip flops while building water stations for dogs in their front yard.
"We are refilling the water every day, replacing the treats. We will come up with little slogans, ‘Tasty Treat Thursday,’ and ‘You haven't been to the dentist yet because of COVID but your dog can! Here have a Dentastick,’" said creator Andrew Leach.
Andrew and his girlfriend Mary Beth Ede turned the front yard into their version of doggie-utopia. The dogs love it, but it isn't just for them.
"For him, it is a total labor of love, but it is really fun to see how many other people have been able to enjoy it too," said Ede.
Neighbors have stopped by and dropped off cards thanking the couple for their kindness.
"It is so gratifying doing something for the community because really Tulsa has great people in this community who give back and this is the little thing that we can do to give back to the neighborhood that we love," said Leach.
Some people have even left money which Leach used to buy squeaky tennis balls. He gave one to News On 6’s Sawyer Buccy’s Boston Terrier Olivia and she loved it.
"I truly feel like most everyone, anywhere, are good people. We pay so much attention to the negative and there are so many positives out there," said Leach.
They came up with the idea on a walk with Ede's dog, Bronson.
“Bronson would get tired and need some water," said Leach, "So we came up with the idea of actually making a dog water station where all the dogs from the neighborhood could come get a drink of water and a treat so they could last longer on a walk."
Andrew and Mary Beth have kept this going for 9 months now and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
"Tulsa is a town of philanthropists and I believe that everyone can do a little something to make life more enjoyable," said Leach.
