Oklahoma’s U.S. senators both said they would support President Trump’s plan to replace Justice Ginsburg before the end of the year.
President Donald Trump said he wants to vote on a justice to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the election. He said he is considering five women for the position and said he will name a replacement by the end of the week.
Senator James Lankford said, “confirming a Supreme Court nominee during a presidential election year when the White House and Senate majority are of the same party is consistent with precedent.”
Senator Jim Inhofe shared that opinion, saying he looks forward to a “thorough and swift” nomination process.
In 2016, both Lankford and Inhofe said the Senate should wait until after the election to replace Justice Antonin Scalia.
