Coaches and administrators with Tulsa Public Schools said athletic teams are doing even better than expected when it comes to dealing with COVID-19.

Executive Director of Athletics Gil Cloud said coaches and players are strictly following protocols, and he thinks it's making a difference.

Only two games have been canceled at this point, and a few students from Hale and Edison were quarantined.

This is the fourth week of the season, and TPS said it's teams are now starting conference play.

From here on out, Cloud said teams have to make up any missed district games to qualify for playoffs, which wouldn't be easy for the players.

"There may be some times in the next 7 weeks where we're going to have to play two games in a week," said Cloud.

Cloud said he believes the virtual schedule is also helping because student athletes don't have to worry about a crowd of other students who may not be taking the same precautions.
