The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is in the testing phase on a new accountability program.
OHP said the new program will not only help reduce distraction on the highway, but also identify how troopers are spending their day. Troopers will gain ‘points’ for community outreach, recruiting and helping someone on the road on top of routine.
Chief Brent Sugg said the most important thing the agency can do is help reduce deadly crashes.
“They take that drunk driver off the road, they have now prevented a potential serious collision,” Sugg said.
The patrol plans to officially roll out the new program on the first of the new year.
