Two Christmas traditions in Claremore will go on as planned over the next few days with some new safety measures in place.
The city will light the 35-foot Christmas tree that stands tall in the Ne-Mar shopping area parking lot at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Organizers told News On 6 individually-wrapped cookies and warm beverages will be provided.
This has been a tradition for nearly three decades. Organizers said people are encouraged to wear masks and there is plenty of space to physically distance.
On Friday and Saturday, the Dickens On The Boulevard will go on for its 25th anniversary. An organizer said people come from all over Oklahoma and even out of state to take part in the Christmas tradition.
Again, masks are encouraged but not required for anyone coming out. Additional safety measures include the event being moved completely outdoors.
Organizers said sanitation efforts will be increased throughout the event. Santa Claus will even be sitting behind a window this year.
“If people are able to wear that mask to come down and social distance and just walk our downtown, enjoy the music, see the lights, I think that’s kind of a break some people are looking for,” said Jacob Garrison, Executive Director of Claremore on Main Street.
