Here are six things to know before you set your alarm for Friday.
1.WHO GETS THE VACCINE FIRST: The Oklahoma Department of Health will announce updates to COVID-19 vaccine priority groups as the state expects to get the first 33,000 doses next week. The news conference is via Zoom and starts at 10 a.m.
2.RAISE AWARENESS: As more Americans turn to substance abuse during the pandemic, an organization is raising awareness. It’s 12-and-12 day at the 12-and-12 recovery center. They’re also asking for donations like clothing, shoes, toiletries, board games, furniture and more from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
3.FEDERAL DEADLINE: Friday is the deadline for the federal government to avoid a shutdown. The House passed a bill Wednesday to extend federal spending through next week, now it’s headed to the Senate. If Congress fails to pass a spending bill, the government will shut down on Saturday.
4.CONGRATS TO COWBOY GRADS: OSU will celebrate fall graduates with a virtual commencement. The ceremony will also honor spring and summer graduates.
5.HOLIDAY TRAFFIC ALERT: The Christmas parade in downtown Bixby is Friday night at 6:30 p.m., but road closures will start at 5:30 p.m. Riverview Drive, Dawes Avenue, Breckenridge Avenue and Main Street will all be impacted downtown. The theme this year: “An American Christmas.”
6.HOCKEY RETURNS: It’s opening night for the Tulsa Oilers. Game one is at 7:05 p.m. at the BOK against the Wichita Thunder.
