Church Holds Weeks-Long COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

Asbury United Methodist Church is teaming up with Passport Health Oklahoma to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from now until early March. 

Thanks to help from Passport Health Oklahoma, the church was able to administer 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday. 

“What a gift we can give back to the community,” Asbury UMC director of outreach Jim Davis said.

For the next eight weeks, the goal is to administer 500 doses every Friday and Saturday for the entire Tulsa region.

Passport Health Oklahoma, a physician-owned immunization service that helps with community vaccination programs, is using the church as a clinic while it provides the vaccines given to them by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. 

“I feel fortunate to get it,” Marilyn Ahrens said.

Ahrens received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. As a woman of faith, she said having the shot at the church made for a more peaceful experience.

“I liked when I came in, they had a prayer area,” Ahrens said.

Anyone who wants to get a shot must register online and must bring a valid ID when they arrive.

People who were vaccinated Saturday were also scheduled to receive a second dose in four weeks.

The church said it provides a registration link to set up appointments on its website every Monday.
