Roads in Pittsburg County and Okmulgee County are very slick, but many people still have to brave the conditions today to do their jobs.

Roses and Lace Flower Shop Owner Henry Coker said he and his wife are preparing for a busy Valentine’s Day Weekend. Coker said he had to make a few deliveries in Okmulgee and Beggs Wednesday and roads and sidewalks were very slick.

“That hill climb was treacherous. ODOT thank god they were out you know what I mean and just fixed all the roads going out,” said Coker.

Coker said it’s always cold when they’re making deliveries for Valentine’s Day, but it’s especially cold this year. He said they’re also preparing for a lot of foot traffic in and out of the shop.

“We’re just trying to get this cleared out and salted down because they’re talking like heavy traffic here Saturday because of the holiday,” said Coker.

The Indian Nation Turnpike in Pittsburg County was passable, but backroads were incredibly slick.

Pittsburg County Rancher Steve Ketchum was feeding his cattle and said he doesn’t like dealing with these cold conditions.

“Got to haul hay, bust ice and pour feed and pray for some sunshine, get this mess out of here,” said Ketchum.

Ketchum has about 60 head of cattle there and says a few calves were born just two days ago. He said because of the weather he’s checking on them constantly to make sure they’re okay.

“Got a couple new additions out there and hope they can make it until it warms up some but whatever will be will be,” said Ketchum. “We’ll get through it we always do.”
