The Oklahoma House Speaker has won the passage of a new bill, that could create a new requirement for high schoolers to graduate.
House Bill 2030 would require high school students to pass the civics portion of the United States' Naturalization test in order to graduate.
House Speaker Terry O'Donnell of Catoosa explained it is exactly what is required of someone from another country seeking citizenship. 14 other states have adopted similar legislation.
If it passes in the Senate, the legislation would take effect at the beginning of 2022 through the 2023 school year.
