Tulsa International Airport is working to become the first dementia-friendly airport in the country.
The airport is working with Dementia Friendly Tulsa, a program launched by Mayor G.T. Bynum in 2017.
Airport and airline employees will learn how to interact with passengers with dementia. Airport police officers and first responders will get training as well.
“This program is going to help remove some of those barriers and prevent air travel at our airport from being as stressful as it can be,” Bryan Crook with Tulsa International said.
Dementia Friendly Tulsa is free to businesses and organizations. The airport plans to have all employees trained in the next few months.
