New documents obtained by the Associated Press show Tesla CEO Elon Musk made his 2020 visit to Tulsa "out of respect."
Musk came to Oklahoma to visit with Governor Kevin Stitt in 2020 as Musk was trying to determine where to build the new Tesla manufacturing plant.
Tulsa went all out to try and get the plant, even going as far as decorating the Tulsa Driller with a Tesla logo and Elon Musk's face.
New documents show Governor Stitt's secretary of workforce development Sean Kouplen invited Musk to visit Oklahoma. In response, Musk said, "Out of respect, sure. The fundamental problem I have is getting people to move out of California. Austin (Texas) is one of the few places to which they will move."
In the end, Musk choosing to build the plant in Austin, Texas.
