TPS Holds COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics For Eligible Students

Students at Tulsa Public Schools are getting the chance to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The clinic is open to students 12 and older and their families.

Tuesday was the first day of the TPS vaccine and when they opened the doors at 9 a.m. there was already a line of parents and students waiting to get the shot. 

“We got here at 8:30 so we could be first and then get out. We went up to the desk and gave them our consent forms," said Amyra Taylor.

Amyra is 14-years-old, and she's getting the first dose of the COVID vaccine. 

“I just want to keep everyone safe and also myself," said Taylor.

Some students are getting the vaccine for other reasons. 

“My family wants me to because we’re going on vacation," said Thomas Bringier. Thomas is 12-years-old, and his family is planning on traveling to the Philippines this summer.

Tulsa Public Schools said summer plans are another reason why they believe more people are bringing their kids to get vaccinated. 

“Especially as we’re looking to an exciting summer in July. Kids being vaccinated is going to make a difference for everybody to be protected and to be safe," said Jorge Robles. 

Robles with Tulsa Public Schools said thanks to a partnership with Saint Francis they are able to make the vaccine clinic happen and they're already seeing a good turnout. 

“I think families appreciate the ease of doing it through the schools with people they know. Locations they know and we’re hoping that we can get as many families and our students to participate in this," said Robles.

Tuesday, parents and students can head to Memorial Middle School for another vaccine clinic.
