Smoky Sky, Below Normal Temperatures Remain

Partly sunny skies and a continued break from the heat wave from northeast winds.

The only issue remains the hazy-smoky sky as the steering currents remain favorable bringing smoke from the western and pacific northwest fires near the region for the next day or so. Temps are great! And should remain so for the next few days before we see the pattern shifting and bringing more heat and humidity into the area this weekend. We may be once again dealing with heat index advisories as these readings top the 105 range this weekend. Before this occurs, things will remain relatively cool and mild with morning lows in the 60s and daytime highs in the mid to upper 80s. We may reach the lower 90s Thursday and back above the seasonal norms Friday through the weekend.

Temps & Rain Chances

The ridge of high pressure is currently suppressed to our west with a strong trough positioned across the Great Lakes, NE US into SE Canada. The upper air flow between these two features will be from the north or northwest for the next 36 to 48 hours. A weak wave will near the area today and may trigger few small showers across extreme eastern OK or western Arkansas, but the probability will remain extremely low for most of the area.

Highs Today

Thursday into the weekend, our upper airflow becomes more zonal (west to east) and should allow some ridging to near the state this weekend. Beforehand, a weak wave will skirt northeastern OK and southeastern Kansas Thursday into Friday and may squeeze out enough moisture for a few showers or storms. As stated yesterday, this chance will continue to remain low. I had a 20% pop for Thursday evening but will make a last-second call to either continue or reduce before airtime today.

Rain Outlook

By the weekend, morning lows will move back into the mid to upper 70s with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 90s. Heat index values should reach the 105 to 108 range and would more than likely trigger a few heat advisories for part of northeastern OK. Gusty south to southwest winds from 15 to 25 mph will be expected.

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
