Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away and many people are already shopping for ingredients for their holiday meal.
Frozen turkeys and spiral hams are in high demand for the holidays. Jeff Reasor of Reasor's Foods said he orders a year in advance for the holidays.
"We may sell more this year than what we would've thought we would sell because our competitor may not have it. But we always order about 10 percent extra," said Reasor.
He said rumors about a turkey shortage have not impacted his stores because they've received 100% of their holiday order but said that doesn't mean you should wait until the last minute. "The shortages that you'll occasionally see in the stores. Not just us, but across all sorts of vendors. So much of it is supply-side driven and that drives some of the inflation," said Reasor.
He said that means the price of groceries is going to be higher before the end of the year. "People think we're manipulating the system, but it's actually we're a little closer to the supply line and so when things go up or down that why we tend to react a little bit quicker," said Reasor.
He said the current inflation rate is increasing about one percent each month. "If you buy 100 dollars a week well that five dollars. We'll use a simple example that doesn't sound like that much, but when you really break it down that could be ten items that went up 50 cents," said Reasor.
