Christmas is just over a week away, but there's still time to fit in those last-minute holiday activities.
Decorating a gingerbread house is a classic tradition whether you're headed to a competition or making one with your family. Glacier Chocolate Chief Operating Officer Gene Leiterman says the secret is being as creative as possible and telling a story.
From a beach house to a snowy cabin in the woods, making a gingerbread house is about making it your own.
"It's really being creative. And making a little work of art that's edible, and looks delicious, tastes delicious,” Leiterman said.
Leiterman is a pastry chef and teaches gingerbread decorating classes around Christmas time. He says for the best results, and to eat as a dessert, make the frosting and gingerbread yourself.
"This is absolutely my favorite thing to do during the holiday season and about my job because I get to experience the joy of decorating a house,” Leiterman said.
Leiterman says if you mess up, cover it up with frosting or just eat it!
"I think it's fun because it allows you to be a kid. Allows you to be creative, it's nostalgic,” Leiterman said. "It doesn't matter whether I'm teaching a class and there are six-year-olds and 80-year-olds. Everybody acts like a kid."
No matter how your gingerbread house turns out, it all comes down to the memories you make in the meantime.
Glacier Chocolate + Coffee is hosting a Gingerbread Decorating Class next Thursday, Dec. 23 at the South Tulsa location and spots are limited.
