An audit says two former Hulbert school employees are accused of embezzling about a half-million dollars from the school district.
The employees have resigned, but now the district is in a bad financial spot.
Some parents are worried about teachers having the supplies they need to teach so they want to help.
One mom says when she found out what happened she was heartbroken, and she knew she had to do something to help the teachers.
Cynthia Hubbard was born and raised in Hulbert. She graduated from Hulbert Schools and three of her children are now students.
"Our community is so tight, and when one hurts, we all hurt and we come together as a community, we do whatever we can to help," she said.
Cynthia says it's been tough seeing this happen to a district she loves so much, and it was gut-wrenching to hear that nearly $500,000 could possibly have been embezzled from two former employees.
"To think about all of the money that had been taken away from not only the school and the teachers, but mainly the children, because that's what it boils down to is this has been taken away from our kids," she said.
Cynthia says she and other parents in the district started a group called Rider Mommas a few years ago.
The group delivers gifts to teachers every month to let them know they are appreciated.
She says they're now needed more than ever.
"I just know that things are going to be tough and they aren't going to have money to get the basic needs that they are going to need," she said.
The group is now collecting basic classroom items to give to the teachers like copy paper and also Clorox wipes.
Cynthia says they decided to do this to take a negative situation and make it as positive as possible, and to show the Hulbert teachers how loved they are.
"Without teachers we are nothing, and I just want to give back to them what they give to our kids because they instill values every day in our children," she said.
She says if you would like to donate supplies to teachers in Hulbert, you can contact her on the Rider Mommas Facebook group.
