A scholarship fund is established in honor of a doctor killed in last week’s mass shooting at Saint Francis' Natalie Building.
Doctor Stephanie Husen was a proud graduate of OSU’s medical program and her friends and colleagues said this will inspire students.
One of Dr. Husen’s mentors said she treated everyone with kindness; her friends, family, and patients. She said this scholarship is a way for people to remember that.
“Dr. Husen had a zest for life," said Dr. Natasha Bray.
Dr. Natasha Bray said to know Dr. Stephanie Husen was to love her.
She said Dr. Husen was a friend to all and always took care of everyone else first.
"Her friends became your friends. It was that joy for life, that compassion, that value for who people were," said Dr. Bray.
Dr. Bray met Dr. Husen during their time at the OSU Center for Health Sciences.
Dr. Bray mentored Husen and said Husen went on to mentor Dr. Bray’s sister. She said they would always be there for each other.
“Everyone's had a chance to realize what a lasting impact she had on her patients," said Dr. Bray.
Dr. Husen was one of four people killed in last week’s shooting at Saint Francis' Natalie Building.
She was a Ponca City native who went to OU for her bachelor's degree and went on to be a sports medicine specialist.
Dr. Bray said she loved seeing her patients get better.
Another colleague, Dr. Amanda Padilla, said she had a sunny optimism and “exemplified Christ in every way.”
Dr. Padilla said Dr. Husen was her maid of honor, and she was one of the kindest people around. She said it's an honor to see Dr. Husen be remembered with a scholarship.
"Everyone's had a chance to realize what a lasting impact she had on her patients," said Dr. Bray.
The school wants to keep giving back in her name, and a memorial scholarship was created with the OSU Center for Health Sciences so that Dr. Husen will keep inspiring future students to live like she did.
"Scholarship will go to students who will understand her story and know her story," said Dr. Bray.
That scholarship fund is open now and Saint Francis also has its own fund for people to donate.
