Oklahoma Human Services has launched a new campaign to get more child care professionals working in the state.
'Care For Kids' is a state-wide initiative working to increase the number of childcare workers in Oklahoma. Oklahoma Human Services has also designed an area for professionals to post job postings online. Plus, those who become licensed child care professionals and participate in a state program will get a 1 thousand dollar incentive.
Brittany Lee is the Director of Childcare Services and says the workforce shortage has continued to hit the industry hard since the pandemic. Lee said because of the shortage many parents haven't been able to return to work. Her agency hopes this campaign will create more retention and recruitment opportunities.
"It is critical that we have the right people in place to take care of Oklahoma's children in general. We know child care is critical to support families working but even families that just want to make sure children are getting what they need to support the lifelong journey of education and growing up and fostering certain environments," said Lee.
The agency is also offering money for people to start programming in locations in need.
