Man Killed After Sand Collapsed On Him While Digging, Tulsa Police Say

A man was found dead after police say sand collapsed on him while he was digging a tunnel near 56th and Riverside on Monday.

Tulsa Police say Andrew Farris had been digging for three weeks, looking for copper wire, when the embankment collapsed.

"It is rare, I've been here 16 years and it's the first one I've seen, but all along the river here it's loose sand, the river is constantly wanting to wash into the bank and make these cliffs that like to collapse," said Lt. Goldstein with TPD.

Police say Farris' body is now with the medical examiner's office, where an autopsy will be performed.
