Two homeless men got into a fight Monday afternoon in the middle of the street in Brookside and one of them had a machete, Tulsa Police said.

People said they were enjoying lunch when they saw one man with a machete charge after another man near 36th and South Peoria.

Police said they learned one of the men had exposed himself and the other man took offense to that.

Police said the man who took offense had a machete in each hand and charged at the man who had exposed himself.

Witnesses said several Good Samaritans jumped into action until first responders arrived and took control of the situation.

Police took away the machetes and issued the man who exposed himself a ticket for outraging public decency.

The man with the machetes was able to leave the scene because the man who exposed himself didn't want to report as a victim of assault with a deadly weapon.

It was a mutual combat situation, according to police.

Witnesses said they are glad police got there fast and thankful for all of the other people who stepped in to help.

"The emergency people did a great job of de-escalating, and the construction guys and private security people came out and held them down,” said Cameron Smith, a witness.

"If we see something going on that's not good, we'll react and make sure everyone's taken care of,” said Krista Johnson, who also witnessed the fight.

Tulsa Police said they are grateful so many people were willing to discuss what they had seen. Witnesses can be a huge help when it comes to solving crimes, police said.
