There is a taxi service in Green Country for both pets and their owners.
The business is called "Zoober," which takes dogs, cats, and people to and from their appointments safely. The eco-friendly van runs on natural gas and brings a tail-waggin' good time. Carolyn Adelaide and her dog, Teddy, have been riding with Zoober Pet Taxi Service for weeks.
"So, I got into a car accident in January, and I bring Teddy to work with me every day,” said Adelaide. “Uber, you spend so much more, and even the experience isn't the same."
The “bonified” driver behind this business is Kim Hubbert.
"I'm involved in rescue, and I'm always seeing people post online, 'I don't have a ride to get here, get there, can someone come get me?' and I thought, 'You know, we could use that service in Tulsa.’" Explained Hubbert.
From the first customers a year ago, to dozens of other pampered pooches, they have given this ride a “five-paw” rating.
"They don't have to take off work to get their animal to the vet or groomer, whatever,” said Hubbert. “So, it's been really handy for a lot of people."
No matter where the pet needs to go, Hubbert said she can pick it up, wait and take it back home. Hubbert said it is optional whether the owner joins. This is not your average van. A Zoober ride comes with a handicap-accessible ramp and all sorts of safety measures to make sure people and their pets get to their destination safely.
Dogs can ride in a secured crate, or puppy seat, tethered on the seat or floorboard, or sit on a large orthopedic mattress. Cats ride in a pet carrier. Hubbert said the ramp has been useful for both senior dogs and owners who need a boost.
Each ride is $15 or $25 for a round trip around the metro.
"I make my fees really low because I want them to use my service so that their animals are taken care of," said Hubbert.
Hubbert said she hopes to keep driving business and have more Zoober vans eventually cruising across the country.
"My goal is to have a fleet,” said Hubbert. “So you see the different rideshares, and then you see Zoober on it right there with them.”
