Prosecutors: Broken Arrow Man Sentenced For Shooting, Killing Landlord

A Broken Arrow man who shot and killed his landlord over an argument about the thermostat received a 33-year prison sentence, prosecutors said.

Cody O'Bryan killed Stephen Bernius in September of 2021, prosecutors said. O'Bryan was renting a room in Bernius' house, according to prosecutors.

Investigators said Bernius had requested a protective order against O'Bryan just two days before he was killed because he was being threatened, but was denied.

Under Oklahoma law, to get a protective order, you need to either be in a relationship with the person or be a stalking victim.
