City leaders in Collinsville are looking for input on its comprehensive plan draft.
Input leaders have gathered from the community during the past year focuses on historic preservation and economic development. Residents hope to see an increase in people opening up businesses and more retail options on Main Street.
Another target initiative the city is planning is defining districts in the city. That would mean creating landmarks to help designate the areas of the city, including East and West Gates, Highway 20 corridor, and employment districts. City Planner Jessi Stringer says this will help guide their development.
“If anyone does have time to comment on the document, we really want to focus on Collinsville tomorrow and how we get there. Ideally, we want to make sure we’re on the right track we didn’t miss anything in the process. We identified some core values in the community,” Jessi Stringer, City of Collinsville City Planner, said.
Making improvements to main Main Street is another target area. Stringer shares that the area is a top priority because it’s where most of the city’s sales tax is generated.
Beyond the draft’s approval, city leaders are already planning for future needs as well.
“Following the comprehensive plan adoption the next steps would be to update the sub-division regulations and zoning codes to make sure that those very important policies reflect the needs of the community we learned from the comprehensive plan feedback,” Jessi Stringer, City of Collinsville, said.
You can give your input on the comprehensive plan draft until June 21st before it heads to the planning commission and city council for approval. City leaders hope that this will be adopted as early as July.
