About 1,000 people across Green Country had a hot Thanksgiving meal brought straight to their doorstep Thursday. Meals on Wheels gives homebound seniors food year-round.
Before each meal makes it to its destination, a team of people are prepping behind the scenes. Volunteers collect a certain number of meals and it's time to hit the road.
Mark Powell and his son Easton have four stops to make on this Thanksgiving Day and each one is a chance to serve.
“They’re good. They’re nourishing. They keep me kickin’,” Sapulpa resident Gary Brumley said.
Brumley is alone for the holiday. A visit at his front porch means everything.
“I think he was actually sent to me from God, he really was. I don’t think he’ll ever forsake me like a lot of other folks have,” he said.
Volunteers are delivering hundreds of meals across the Tulsa metro, including about 30 in Sapulpa.
“This may be the only interaction they get sometimes. That once a day when somebody shows up with a hot meal,” Powell said.
“Without Meals on Wheels I don’t think a lot of elderly people could make it,” Brumley said.
Proving delivering meals and making memories can make all the difference.
