Lights were strung, garland was hung, and the band completed their sound checks to make sure the first-ever Shine on Greenwood went off without a hitch.
"I've always wanted to do community events and I finally stepped out of the boat and decided, let's try this this year," said Tony Mason.
Mason helped organize the event and said he came up with the idea earlier this year.
"I love Christmas lights and I wanted to do something here that I really love myself, So, I wanted to light this place up, bring some live music," Mason said.
Mason and another local vocalist, Valerie Harding, are from Tulsa and were featured on the National show "The Voice." They wanted to combine their talent with the Christmas spirit and give back to their community.
"I want to do this all over this area and all over town, and just share this gift of music that God gave me with as many people as I can, but right here is going to be really good," Mason said.
Greenwood is decked out in lights with the treetops, of course, lit up green. Several folks said an event like this helps bring the community together.
"It's long overdue, and it's a great opportunity for Greenwood to be showcased," Sherrie Wallace said.
And after all the planning, Mason was excited to finally see it all come to life and help everyone get into the Christmas spirit. "I wanted to do something to just kind of light it up. Bring some hope, some Christmas joy," he said.
Tony Mason said he looks forward to doing several events like this for the Greenwood community. He plans to keep hosting Shine on Greenwood every Saturday after Thanksgiving as long as he can.
