Over the coming weeks, people will be traveling for the holidays to gather with friends and family for special events.
If you're wondering how to stay healthy during the holidays, we invited Dr. Stacy Chronister to share some advice. She's an internal medicine specialist with OSU Medicine.
The Flu, RSV, and COVID are all prominent this holiday season, Dr. Chronister said. She said there's especially been an uptick in RSV cases in adults and children.
Dr. Chronister said you can get vaccines for all of those illnesses at once and they are effective.
"Sometimes you need to wait in between if you've already had one. But honestly, getting the vaccine is better than not getting it. Because it may not prevent you from getting sick, but at least it will let the illness be less severe, less likely to spread, and it won't last as long," Dr. Chronister explained.
She said it takes about two weeks to be fully vaccinated, so right now is the perfect time to get it before you see your family over the holidays.
She said those over age 60 are now eligible for RSV vaccines, which protects from a respiratory virus that is causing a lot of hospitalizations.
