The Tulsa Public Schools “Tournament of Champions” kicked off Wednesday at the BOK Center, with 16 teams competing in the three-day tournament.

Some of the state’s top-ranked boys' and girls' high school teams are taking part.

“Most of these teams here are pre-season ranked #1 or came off a state championship last year,” said TPS Athletic Director Mick Wilson. “I get phone calls almost daily really about people wanting to be a part of the Tournament of Champions.”

Most of the spectators are families watching their own student-athletes, like Lila Osceola-Heard of Sapulpa, watching her daughter play.

“She put a lot of time into basketball, and it's paying off, getting to play here in the bright lights in front of her family and friends,” she said.

Dr. Ebony Johnson, the TPS Superintendent, praised the students who kept their grades up and practiced to get to the tournament level.

“It's great for us, it's great for Tulsa Public Schools, and with all the things happening for us, this is great, we love it,” she said.

TPS says ticket sales are strong for all three days this year, with ticket prices starting at $6 a seat.

To buy tickets, visit BOK's website here. For more information about the Tulsa Public Schools Tournament of Champions, visit the TPS athletics page here.
