Convicted Murderer In Tulsa County Jail Charged Again With Assaulting Detention Officer

A man in the Tulsa County Jail charged with murdering three women he knew or dated, has been charged again with assaulting jail staff.

Terryl Brooks has been in jail for the murders since 2022, and since then has racked up several more charges while behind bars.

Brooks has been charged with three new crimes since he's been in jail, including assaulting jail staff twice in the last two months.

Tulsa Police arrested Terryl Brooks in April of 2022 after they say he killed Tyra Whitaker, then buried her body in a shallow grave, then months later, they say he killed Elizabeth Dillard and Rainbow Star Dancer. Investigators say Brooks either dated or knew all three women, or they were last seen with Brooks. Whitaker was reported missing in January of 2022, and her body was found in the grave in April. Prosecutors say Brooks killed Dillard on her front porch in March of 2022, then killed Rainbow Star Dancer in her apartment days later.

Since Brooks has been in jail, he has racked up new charges. Brooks was charged with indecent exposure in October of 2022, and in that case, the jail report says Brooks exposed himself to a female detention officer.

In November of 2023, Brooks was charged with assaulting a detention officer, and in that case, the report says Brooks threatened to beat up the jail staff and then kicked an officer.

Just this week, Brooks was charged again with assaulting a jailer, and in this case, the report says Brooks threw his food tray at the jailer and had to be pepper sprayed. The report says, later on, Brooks started kicking the jailer.

Prosecutors say Brooks also used the jail phones to make death threats to witnesses in his murder case. The judge revoked his privileges, and now Brooks is only allowed phone calls with his attorney, and Brooks' mail will also be monitored.

Brooks fired his attorney earlier this month, which is something he has already done before since he was charged with murder. He's due back in court in March.
