Local Nonprofit Helps Teens, Families Heal From Intergenerational Trauma

A local nonprofit is on a mission to help teens and their families heal from past trauma and live full lives.

Soaring Eagles Youth and Family Services is a local organization that's working to help teens and their families live a life beyond their wildest dreams.

Premadonna Braddick, the Executive Director, joins us on the Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to share more about the mission.

What services are offered at Soaring Eagles?

"We offer just a plethora of services. But basically, you know, we want to help, like you said, help youth and families heal from intergenerational family trauma by rewriting their stories. So we partner with different counseling services. And we also have case management services. And we talk about financial planning, and mental health workshops, and different things that help them succeed in life," Braddick said.

Why is it important to have a whole family involved in the healing process?

"So I believe in the systems theory. The whole is greater than a (summative). In the past, we've worked with one of the youth and the teens. And then just for them to go back home and everything that we've worked with, it just gets unraveled. So when we have the whole family just come on board and really understand the vision that we're doing, we have a greater success in helping our families. We've had families who were on state assistance (who) are now homeowners and have their own businesses," Braddick said.

What events are coming up for Soaring Eagles?

"We have the third annual Rise Up Young Men Teen Summit in which we are in collaboration with the Tulsa 100 Black Men. Now this is a spin off from our Girls Teen Summit, which a lot of mothers were saying, 'Do you have anything for the teen boys?' And so we were able to partner with the Tulsa 100 Black Men. It's been a great success. Like the Girls Teen Summit, we're talking about financial planning. We're also talking about college readiness, career and entrepreneurship, and mental health awareness and much more.
