A new feature film entirely shot in Oklahoma is out in theaters Aug. 30 after making a big economic impact on our state.
The movie “Reagan” is based on former President Ronald Reagan's life and features stars like Dennis Quaid and some local actors.
The movie was shot four years ago in Guthrie, which is about 100 miles from Tulsa.
Dakota Kennedy from Broken Arrow said being a part of the film has been the highlight of his acting career so far.
“It was really cool to get handed a call sheet where my name was on the list with Dennis Quaid, Penelope Miller, Jon Voight, some of the actors I grew up loving,” said Kennedy.
Kennedy said the shoot in September of 2020 was his first time in Guthrie, and he was impressed with the Scottish rite Temple, where much of the film was shot.
“That was a pretty cool experience to see all the moving parts of that and getting to work with the director on that,” said Kennedy.
Jeanette Stanton with the Oklahoma Film and Music Office will not give away any spoilers.
“I got to see a rough cut, so I'm excited to see the final version,” said Stanton.
Stanton said the film spent $22 million in Oklahoma in the 30 days crews were in the state.
“This was entirely shot in Oklahoma, and the community welcomed it, and we're really proud of it,” said Stanton.
Kennedy said this is one of several recent feature films bringing actors to our state.
“People are starting to understand that Oklahoma has a lot to offer, so it's really a great time to be alive and working as an actor in Oklahoma,” said Kennedy.
Kennedy and his wife are flying to Los Angeles this weekend for the premiere of “Reagan.”
The Oklahoma Film and Music Office said something is in the works for Oklahoma, too.
