Rising Fuel Prices Fail To Slow Holiday Weekend Travelers

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Higher gasoline prices will increase the cost of travel this Memorial Day holiday, but experts say it's unlikely to keep many travelers at home.
AAA Oklahoma estimates 437,000 Oklahomans will travel by motor vehicle over the holiday, a 1.4 percent increase over Memorial Day last year.
In addition, nearly 68,000 Oklahomans are expected to travel by airplane, 4.7 percent more than one year ago.
The auto club estimated that overall, more than 505,000 Oklahomans will travel 50 miles or more from home over the Memorial Day holiday period this year, a 1.8 percent increase over Memorial Day of last year.
